Dramatic theater is one of the main types of theater, along with opera and ballet, puppet theater and pantomime.
Unlike the opera and ballet theaters, where the basis of the performance is a musical and dramatic work – opera, ballet, operetta – the drama theater performance is all based on a literary work – a drama or a script that involves improvisation. The main means of expression for a dramatic actor, along with physical actions, is speech – unlike opera, where the content of the performance is revealed in music and singing, and ballet, where it is embodied in musical and choreographic images, dance and pantomime.

Opera is a stage type of theatrical art, in which the dramatic action is closely combined with vocal and orchestral music; opera often includes dance.
There are such genres as grand opera, comic opera, romantic opera, ballet opera, etc. Opera productions are usually performed in specially equipped opera houses.

The opera is an ensemble of solo episodes – arias, duets, trios, quartets, ariosos, recitatives, as well as ensembles, choruses, ballet scenes and is divided into acts and pictures, scenes and numbers, with a prologue before acts and an epilogue at the end.A large role in opera belongs to the orchestra.

Ballet is a type of stage art, a performance, the content of which is embodied in musical and choreographic images. At the heart of a classical ballet is a definite plot, dramatic concept and libretto; in the 20th century there appeared the ballet without any plot, the dramaturgy of which is based on the development set to the music.
There are three main positions in the ballet: the soloists, the chorus (representing a group of dancers) and the orchestra. The basis of the ballet is some literary work on which the script – libretto – is written. In ballet there are the main types of dance: classical dance and character dance, as well as pantomime, through which the actors convey the feelings of the characters, their conversation with each other.

Puppet theater is one of the varieties of puppet art, which includes animated and nonanimated animated film art, variety puppetry and artistic puppet television programs. In puppet theater performances, the appearance and physical actions of characters are depicted and/or indicated, as a rule, by volumetric, semi-volumetric and flat puppets (actor puppets). It should be noted that the phrase “puppet theater” is incorrect and offends the professional dignity of puppeteers, because the adjective “puppet” is associated with the concept of “not real. The correct word is “puppet theater,” which, by the way, is the name of all professional animation theaters.

Pantomime is the art of creating an artistic image with the help of mimics and plasticity of the human body without using words.
In the Middle Ages, the church forbade pantomime, but itinerant actors continued to use elements of pantomime. Comedia del Arte included wordless interludes. Pantomime was an important element of the harlequinade, comic plays in which Harlequin was the protagonist. Pantomime can be dance, classical, acrobatic, eccentric, in the early twentieth century there was a dramatic pantomime.

A musical is a type of musical theater that combines dialogue, song, music, and dance. To act in a play, you have to write a play. The plot is mostly taken from famous literary works of world drama and is implemented by the stage director, choreographer, singing specialists, special effects producers, etc. As a rule, a musical is a two-act play. The staging of vocals and plastique differs from the classical musical genre: voices should not sound “operatic” and the dance should not look “ballet-like”. Speech, facial expressions, dance, and plastique must be in the same line of stage behavior.

Operetta, a type of musical theater, means “little opera” in Italian. The operetta school was born in Vienna (Austria) in the 60s of the 19th century.
Even in the ecstatic antique mysteries in honor of Dionysus, the god of winemaking, fun, orgies and religious ecstasy, which are considered the prototype of European drama, one can identify some genre features of operetta: the combination of music with pantomime, dance, buffoonery, carnival and love intrigue.
