The Jewish International Film Festival (23 October – 21 November) will launch its program with the Australian Premiere of The Other Story on Sunday 22 September. Tickets are now on sale for the poignant drama centred on the divide between Israel’s secular Jews and the ultra-Orthodox, from award-winning veteran director Avi Nesher (Past Life, JIFF 2017).

The launch screenings in Sydney and Melbourne will offer local audiences a preview of world-class films screening at the Festival in October and November. Full program tickets go on sale Monday 23 September.

“The Festival is proud to launch its full program with this special screening of the latest cinematic masterpiece from one of Israel’s most gifted and prolific storytellers, after it broke box office records in his home country,” Eddie Tamir, Jewish International Film Festival Artistic Director said. “The Other Story offers a moving and fascinating examination of family, spirituality and love through its witty dialogue and incredible performances, with desperate parents, rebellious children, and spouses locked in conflict.”

“The screenings are an excellent opportunity to preview the diverse program of films selected from Australia and around the world, offering brilliant insight into Jewish culture,” he said.

The captivating drama follows the families of two rebellious young women on very different paths – one embracing ultra-Orthodox Judaism despite a secular upbringing, the other desperate to leave her strict religious background behind – whose paths begin to tangle in unexpected ways. The film features Israeli pop star Nathan Goshen, who also contributes original songs to the film’s soundtrack.
